Peter Henshaw's book is of interest to
those, who wish to buy a Norton Commando for the first time in their
lives. For those, it is probably a help; for accuracy of technical
information it wasn't my first choice.
Henshaw's assessment of the technical developments and his account
of when technical changes or changes in specification were carried
out is far from accurate and contains popular but untrue myths (f.e.
the
Combat saga), copies mistakes of many other works about Commandos
(numbering system of 750s, total number of bikes built), and
introduces new ones.
It is probably unfair to critizise a book
for somebody one who was professionally involved in Commandos and their spare
parts for over three decades. But it is irritating nonetheless when
one sees obvious mistakes like "some Mk3s were produced to JPN
specification" (that never happened bar the bike that was built
and photographed for the Mk3 prospectus)- not to mention
a lot of others.
