Norton singles are
comprehensively covered in Roy Bacon's very good book named- you
guessed it- "Norton Singles". As its sister work "Norton Twins", this
book is now back in print, and available from Andover Norton (Part#
RB001, £22.50).
Bacon covers all models, including- at great length- the camshaft
models, road and racing, which fill nearly half the book, if one
includes the "Racing and Records" chapter.
As I have said in my critizism of the Walker "Norton Manx"
book, the information given in Bacon's book, in conjunction with the
usual first-class Appendix that gives technical specifications and
carburettor settings for the various years, is far more concentrated
and, at the same time, far more enlightening than the Walker book.
The other OHV and SV
road and dirt bikes are also covered, in text and pictures, and,
even though one might be led to think they get but little attention,
it is sufficient, as the road models tended to remain unchanged for
as many years as possible, whilst not a single year went by without
the racing models getting the latest improvements.
Again, these standart
models are covered in the Appendix, which is helpful in many ways
and is my most-used reference when answering customers questions.
